About Internet Governance Forum (IGF) 2020
The Fifteenth Annual Meeting of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) was hosted online by the United Nations under the overarching theme: Internet for human resilience and solidarity. The programme continued to develop around the four main thematic tracks: (1) Data; (2) Environment; (3) Inclusion; (4) Trust. The IGF 2020 pre-events, newcomers sessions, thematic introductory sessions, as well as the Open Forums, NRIs and DC sessions were hosted from 2 to 6 November during the first meeting’s phase. The meeting was officially opened on 9 November and closed on 17 November. During this 7-day phase, workshops, main sessions, the high-level leader’s track, parliamentarians roundtable and thematic concluding sessions were hosted.

Personal Sovereignty: Digital Trust in the Algorithmic Age
This session explored dimensions of the challenges and opportunities in identifying innovative approaches to promote and use technologies for sustainable development. It addressed how the shared goal of sustainable development can be realized by harnessing technologies, while at the same time minimizing their disruptive and adverse effects.

Dr. Salma Abbasi
Dr. Salma Abbasi is a technologist, philanthropist and social activist, with a proven track record as a visionary leader with dynamic drive and positive energy, she motivates both, professionals and the civil society. She is the CEO, eWorldwide Group, an international company focusing on development and security. A former Senior Vice President, Lucent Technologies, she has over 35 years’ experience in the field of technology, innovation for sustainable development and policy development for economic empowerment.
John Havens
John Havens is Executive Director of the IEEE Global Initiative on Ethics of Autonomous and Intelligent Systems. John helps define guidelines for beneficial relationships between humans and their increasingly clever machine counterparts. His mission is to educate, train, and empower people involved with developing these future technologies in order to implement Ethically Aligned Design and improve outcomes for all. John is also executive director of the Council on Extended Intelligence (CXI), an interdisciplinary cohort of experts founded by the IEEE Standards Association and the MIT Media Lab that champions responsible participant design, data agency, and metrics of economic prosperity that prioritize people and the planet over profit and productivity.
Moira Patterson
Moira Patterson is the Global Market Affairs & Community Engagement Director for IEEE-SA. Ms. Patterson oversees key initiatives related to digital inclusion and identity, data governance, and children’s online experiences. She has managed strategic initiatives and policy engagements in Europe and Africa and engaged in capacity building activities. In her role, Ms. Patterson has facilitated dialogue among various stakeholders (industry, government, academia, and social impact bodies) on ICT technology and the intersection of technology and policy, and worked in multi-stakeholder environments across various technical domains and industry sectors. By promoting standards’ potential to support sustainable development and to address digital challenges, Ms. Patterson contributes to IEEE’s mission of advancing technology for the benefit of humanity.
About IGF
The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) is a multi-stakeholder governance group for policy dialogue on issues of Internet governance. It serves to bring people together from various stakeholder groups as equals, in discussions on public policy issues relating to the Internet. While there is no negotiated outcome, the IGF informs and inspires those with policy-making power in both the public and private sectors. At their annual meeting delegates discuss, exchange information and share good practices with each other. The IGF facilitates a common understanding of how to maximize Internet opportunities and address risks and challenges that arise.
