This recommended practice describes how to conduct transient stability studies and analysis of industrial and commercial power systems. The basic concepts involved in such studies are described first. This is followed by a discussion of how to assemble the required data needed for the analysis, how to recognize potential problems associated with the transients and how to implement corrective measures and protection to minimize the effects of transients. This standard does not address studies and analysis of transients caused by switching.
